I really enjoy the desert Southwest, and this should be a great time of year to be there. That part of the country has had a fairly wet December, and they are looking forward to a floral desert spring.
The route is about as far south as possible, and still remain in the US. Although we will not be crossing the Rockies, many areas in New Mexico are above a one mile elevation, and there will be some chilly nights :)
